What is the basic foundation of your OOTD?
Years before I knew I wanted to be a fashion designer and stylist, I read a book by Rachel Zoe called “A to Zoe” about style. One thing that stuck out t me what that she said something about how your outfit is built from the shoes you’re going to wear. After taking a moment to think about it, it was something that I naturally already did.
When styling clients or helping friends decide what to wear, I always ask what shoes they plan on wearing. Shoes are such an important piece of your outfit, one, they go on your feet, you’re going to be in them for hours and the pull your whole look together.
I have a pair of Steve Madden leopard print stilettos that I LOVE to wear with everything. Leopard print is a neutral in my wardrobe, but thats a topic for another day.
So how do you build your look from the ground up? Simple. Start with the shoes you want to wear.
Next, stay in the same family color; cool or warm colors, black and white. For example, if I choose to wear leopard print heels, my pants will either be dark blue or black. My top will be white, beige, black or a pop of color like pink. Leopard print and pink are my two favorite things to pair together. It’s girlie and edgy.
Then of course you need some accessories. Remember, when wearing accessories, only have one piece that is a “statement” piece because you want to make sure the other items don’t take away from the main piece.
I gave a friend this little piece of advice and she said its the best styling advice she’s been given and does this every time she gets dressed.
